The Forbidden City is the best preserved imperial palace in China, and the largest ancient palatial structure in the world. It is located in the centre of Beijing, China. It had served as the home of emperors and their households as well as political centre of Chinese government for almost 500 years.
The Tiananmen Square, which is located to the south of the Forbidden City, is one of the largest, and the most remarkable public squares in the world. You can visit the Monument to the People's Heroes, Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, and watch the national flag raising ceremony in the Tiananmen Square.
It sounds like there are lots of interesting tourist attractions in Beijing. I wish it wasn't so far from Calgary...I think it would be a great place to visit!
